June 2022 Spirit and Witness Report
The committee met June 4th, 2022.
We have several committees of care and they are all meeting on a more or less regular basis. We are
waiting for paperwork from San Francisco Meeting to proceed with Cheryl Hendrickson and David
Cowen’s transfer of membership from San Francisco to Grass Valley Friends. Cheryl and David will not
be around most of the summer so this may be postponed to the Fall. Crystal’s membership committee will be meeting with her sometime this month.
We discussed plans for the upcoming Memorial Meetings and writing the Memorial Minutes for both Deb Auftenspring and Julia Reynolds. Deb’s Memorial Meeting is pretty much in place. Kathy McCreery will work with Friends who knew Deb and with Dean and Karen
to write the Minute. Dean and Karen will also write Julia’s Memorial Minute. Julia’s memorial is being
handled by the family. Dorothy is working with the family of Bob Barns on his memorial which will be
on Zoom. They do have a Zoom facilitator who will run the meeting. Dorothy is also contacting the
various organizations that Bob was involved in (RSRW, PYM, AVP) to let them know when the Memorial Meeting will be happening. The date is July 16th.
We discussed monthly reporting on the Quaker organizations and wondered how it was proceeding. It
was felt that this needs to be discussed with Meeting as a whole to see how we want to continue this.
Spiritual Life programs are scheduled though September and are as follows:
- June-Doctrine of Discovery with Dianne Marshall
- July-Spiritual Biography with Don McCormick
- August- Evaluation of the year’s programs
- September- Possible retreat at the Starr home—topic to be decided.
The Waking Up book group has started a new book History of Us (a history of the Nisenan) in their continuation of exploring as to where their energy needs to center.
Gordon Starr brought up the idea of having regular get togethers (like Friendly Eights) so newcomers can get to know others in the Meeting. This will probably be done in conjunction with the Welcoming
Committee.
